Sand harbor is located a short drive from Stateline off highway 50 to 28 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. It has a fine sand beach and numerous rocks which add to the beauty of the location. Diving and snorkeling are very popular here too. The swimming and diving areas are separated from boats so you do not need to worry about getting hit. This is one of the finest public outdoor beach facilities you will find. It has a separate parking area, separate beach areas with fantastic views, a pavilion with central grill, fire area, and running water.
Note: Guests arriving by car on busy days should arrive before 11:00 am or after 3 pm. Once the general parking area is full, the entire parking lot is closed, even if there are open spots in the group area! Entry fee as of 2014 is $12.00 for out of state visitors.
Snorkeling and diving are on the beach to the right, where there is a less used parking lot. While snorkeling or diving you will see grinding stones left by the Washoe Indians, small fish, and what’s left on an old pier. Large rocks and small caves are in water as little as 3 feet deep to 40 feet deep, depending on lake level. Surface water temp. 66-68 degrees. Below 30 feet, 39 degrees.
