In this video we check out 4 really awesome alternatives to popular Sydney tourist attractions here in Australia. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the list of attractions i mentioned, i just wanted to throw some other options for you to consider when you do make a visit to sydney 🙂 In order of appearance:

1. Bridge Climb Alternative: Sydney Pylon Lookout
Now one of most iconic landmarks of Sydney, is the Sydney Harbour Bridge. You can drive across it, take a train across it and even walk across it.
but one of the most unique experiences would be to actually climb the bridge and get to the top of Sydney Harbour Bridge. Having said that the bridge climb costs anywhere between $268 – $400 dollars and might not suit everyone’s budget.

The alternative to the Bridge Climb is to get on top of one of the Sydney Harbour Pylons. The south east pylon has been open to the public since 1934 and takes around 200 steps to get to the very top. Here, you get sweeping views of the city of Sydney, the water, the Opera house and of course, front row seats to the Sydney Harbour Bridge itself.

Address: 100 cumberland street the rocks sydney 2000
Entry fees: $19 AUD per adult

2. Sydney Cruise / Water taxi Alternative: Take a Ferry!
You can explore and experience the amazing sights by simply taking one of Sydney’s Ferries. If you’re short on time, take the ferry from Darling Harbour to Circular Quay, it’s around 20 minutes and you zip under the bridge and around the opera house. Alternatively if you have a bit more time, take the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly.

Go on the ferry on a Sunday, the prices are capped at $2.80, so you can take all the ferries, to manly and back, around the harbour, all for $2.80.

3. Fine Dining Alternative : William Blue Dining

William Blue Dining

If you are looking for a fine dining experience, one place I’d really recommend you try is a placed called William Blue Dining, where you can enjoy affordable multi award winning fine dining at The Rocks.

Every time that I’m there, It is always an enjoyable dining experience – we always get amazing service and a delicious meal prepared by chefs in training. Going for the full 3 course would set you back $46, which is a fraction of what fine dining typically costs here in Sydney.

Address:
107 George St, The Rocks NSW 2000
Full 3 course meal: $46 AUD

4. Sydney Tower Eye: Blu Bar on 36
Although not as high as Sydney Tower Eye, being on the 36th floor, you are floating high above The Rocks., And with the 29 dollars you would’ve spent on admission fees, at the Sydney Tower Eye, why not grab a couple beers or one of their signature cocktails instead?
Address: 176 Cumberland St, Sydney NSW 2000

Hey guys, I just wanted to check in and see how you guys are all doing? Things have escalated quite a bit in the last weeks and I really hope you’re all staying safe and healthy.

I have already filmed a number of Sydney food / travel guide videos all of which will be posted in the next few uploads. I know it seems a bit out of place to be posting these videos when travel for leisure, or going on a holiday is probably the last thing on people’s minds right now… but hopefully it gives you a bit of entertainment and takes your mind off things a little? And who knows, when we get through this, maybe you’ll come visit and check out some of these places in person! 😊

and in the meantime, stay safe, take care and I will catch you guys next week.

Really enjoyed your vlog, Janice! An alternative tourist attraction that Eddy and I have experienced is the I’m Free Walking Tours – there’s a city tour and another tour at the Rocks. They’re really informative, and a nice way to see the city while getting some exercise! It’s free in that you give a tip of your choice, if you wish.

Great video Janice – you nailed it. Told a number of Flight Attendants on their first Sydney trips that the Manly Ferry is the must do bargain if they only have a short layover. My only suggestion is maybe a picnic in the Botanic Gardens as another lunch option. Enjoyed seeing your new assistant! Think it totally appropriate you are still posting – inspires us for when all the distancing and isolation is over. But you and your family stay safe

My wife and I have plans to be in Sydney for 2 months Oct15-Nov15. Hopefully the world will be back to normal by then. Love your videos. They are super helpful and we will be using many of your suggestions. Maybe we will even run into you one day. How many people with cameras and selfie sticks can there be? LOL

Hey JF…another great travel video !! The pylons on the bridge don't actually do anything to hold the Sydney Harbour Bridge in place other than look good. !!! The views are sensational though !! Sad to admit I am a Seniors Card holder and it makes the CQ to Manly trip attractive on any day !!! Well done on the Shangri- La Hotel bar…one of the best in Sydney. BTW where you had lunch with your Mum I have a feeling used to be a "wine bar" in the Rocks which was very popular in the old days !! The facade looked familiar !! Love your work young lady !!!

Wow, as a local these tips are amazing where only locals would know. You are definitely showing hidden affordable gems of Sydney that would not be in tour brochures. Janice… you should branch out more and do other topics such as working life in Sydney, interview locals from the south-western parts of Sydney (if you dare to go there), outer boundaries of Sydney and local animals and insects.

My son and I were planning to visit family in Perth this summer and of course visit Sydney, but it looks like that won't be happening this year. We are currently on a shelter-in-place, schools are closed for the next 3 weeks, and no non-essential travel.
And yes, it looks like I won't be seeing toilet paper, hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, alcohol, and paper towels until everyone has stopped hoarding them. And even rice at the Asian store!

I really miss your second weekly videos. Everything here is closing down because they don't want to be put in a situation where choices have to be made on who lives and who dies, and I think it's the right thing to do. That being said, take care of yourself and stay safe.

I'm totally hooked on Sydney… such a cool city and your views from the Shangri-La, I’d be hanging out there every night 😉
Unfortunately can’t do that now, all bars, restaurants, and theaters closed except for food delivery or to go.

Not sure what the deal is with people and TP, the only thing I’m stocking up on is beer, wine & tequila😎
Look after each other and you stay Safe!

Janice, another really good and informative vlog today. Whilst it is true doing a travel related vlog at this time may seem a bit out of place due to all the increasing Covid19 related restrictions on travel at this time. I think it is actually very important and helpful as it gives those who watch your vlogs (like me…😁) a chance relax and have a break from all the negative news related to the Covid19 pandemic. Please keep up the good work & most importantly stay safe…😁👍

I will admit, with the coronavirus problem and lockdowns and tourism, maybe now is not the most beneficial time for tourism videos. BUT: you are finally making relatable and accessible content. No more luxury, overpriced nonsense others that the vast majority cant afford or would avoid. Make it for the masses, and the masses will follow
